The KLPGA Tour’s Only Match Play Event Returns — 18th Doosan Match Play Begins May 13
[THE CAPTURE=Kang Byeong-koo] The 18th Doosan Match Play, the only match-play tournament on the KLPGA Tour schedule, will be held from May 13 to 17 at Ladena Golf Club's Nature (OUT) and Garden (IN) Courses in Chuncheon, Gangwon Province.
The tournament features a total purse of KRW 1 billion, with KRW 250 million awarded to the champion.
This year's field includes defending champion LEE Yewon, along with many of the KLPGA Tour's top players, including Hong Jeongmin, Noh Seunghee, and YOO Hyunjo. With aggressive match-play strategies and psychological battles adding another layer of drama, fans can expect another week of thrilling competition.
Adding further significance to the event, former LPGA star YOO Sooyeon, who claimed victory in the 2009 edition after an unforgettable nine-hole playoff, will serve as the tournament's official ambassador. Through promotional activities and special appearances, she will help celebrate the rich history and tradition of the championship.
One of the most anticipated moments of tournament week will take place on May 12, when the top 16 seeded players participate in the official group draw ceremony. Players will personally draw their opponents, creating the possibility of highly competitive "groups of death" that could dramatically influence the outcome of the tournament. The draw ceremony will be broadcast live through the SBS Golf YouTube channel.
Fans attending the tournament will also be able to enjoy a variety of on-site attractions. Heavy equipment from Doosan Bobcat will be displayed around the course, while exclusive collaboration merchandise will be available for purchase at the Gallery Plaza merchandise shop.
In addition, Doosan will continue its “Yeonkang Junior Golf Scholarship” program. Proceeds from ticket sales and corporate donations will provide scholarships of KRW 10 million each to five promising young golfers, totaling KRW 50 million. Previous scholarship recipients include some of Korea’s leading professionals, such as Park Minji, Lim Heejeong, and Yoon Ina.
The tournament is jointly hosted by Doosan Corporation and Doosan Enerbility, sanctioned by the KLPGA, and will be broadcast live throughout all rounds on SBS Golf and Wavve.
