“Cutieful” PARK Hyunkyung Shows Her Match Play Strength with a Dominant 4&2 Victory
[Chuncheon=Kang Byeong-koo] PARK Hyunkyung (Mediheal) opened her campaign at the 18th Doosan Match Play with an impressive victory, relying on her trademark consistency and concentration to secure a convincing win.
PARK defeated Jeong Soyi 4&2 in the opening group-stage match held on the Nature-Garden Course (Par 72, 6,503 yards) at Ladena Golf Club in Chuncheon, Gangwon Province.
The match began as a closely contested battle. PARK lost the opening hole but quickly responded with a birdie on the 2nd to level the match. The two players remained evenly matched through the early stages before PARK gradually began to assert control.
The turning point came on the back nine. PARK regained the lead with a birdie on the 10th hole and extended her advantage on the 11th after capitalizing on a mistake by her opponent. Consecutive birdies on the 14th and 15th holes effectively sealed the outcome of the match.
Her iron play was particularly impressive throughout the latter stages of the round. PARK attacked pins aggressively while maintaining excellent course management, and her putter delivered at key moments to keep momentum firmly on her side.
Known as one of the KLPGA Tour’s most experienced match-play competitors, PARK once again demonstrated her ability to thrive in head-to-head competition. Her calm demeanor masked a fierce competitive spirit, and she never allowed her opponent to gain sustained momentum.
PARK has been one of the most consistent performers on the KLPGA Tour this season, and this victory gives her an early advantage in the race to advance from the group stage. Her performance on the demanding Ladena Golf Club layout further strengthened expectations that she could make a serious run at the title.
The Doosan Match Play remains the only match-play tournament on the KLPGA Tour. Following the group-stage competition, only the winner of each group advances to the knockout rounds. With a dominant opening victory, PARK Hyunkyung has once again established herself as one of the tournament’s strongest contenders.
